Julie Wernau is an unemployed writer searching for a job in Chicago. Her ChicagoNow blog, The Job Stalker, details her adventures and advice as she hunts down employment in the Windy City. Before moving to Chicago, Julie worked in media relations at Connecticut College, where she helped manage and create content for the college web site, acted as the go-to writer for admission publications and web-based marketing initiatives and managed the college Twitter account: @ConnCollege.
Previously, Julie worked as a journalist for The Day, a daily newspaper covering Southeastern Connecticut, where she was a multi-award-winning police reporter. As a reporter, her investigation into a wide-spread real estate Ponzi scheme eventually led to the federal conviction of the scheme’s chief player. Her coverage earned her the 2008 New England Associated Press News Executives Association Thomas K. Brindley Award for Public Service and dubbed her the 2007 New England Press Association Rookie of the Year. She uses many of those same investigative techniques and social media skills in her job hunt. A 2003 graduate of the University of Connecticut at Storrs, Julie has a bachelor’s degree in English and psychology.
